Our range of vegetable-tanned leather

In a world where speed often takes precedence over quality, we at Tärnsjö Garveri have chosen a different path. A slower, yet more meaningful one. We are one of the world’s last tanneries that still vegetable-tans – with pride, with care, and with full respect for nature. Here, leather is crafted that not only tells a story but also carries a future.

Everything takes place locally, under one roof. From raw hides sourced from local abattoirs to the finished product. Each step is characterized by craftsmanship, tradition, and a deep commitment to sustainability. Our materials are found in iconic furniture, exclusive hotels, and environments where every detail is carefully considered. It is only when you see it, touch it, and smell it that you fully understand its true value – and its endless possibilities.

We work exclusively with the finest raw materials available, sourcing hides from our local surroundings. All leather is produced from Swedish bovine hides. We ensure that we only collaborate with suppliers committed to sustainable practices and high quality. Each batch of hides is marked with a unique number to trace its origin. This tracking system serves two purposes: it allows us to identify premium quality hides, and it enables you to pre-order leather traceable all the way back to the farm. Our leather is tested and certified to be free from harmful substances.

We offer a wide selection of vegetable-tanned leather suitable for many different products. We have everything from soft upholstery leather in thicknesses of 1.1-1.3 mm to 4 mm thick flat leather.

Tärnsjö Garveri Upholstery Leather

Upholstery Leather

Upholstery leather is the thinnest and softest leather we offer. Thanks to its soft feel and flexibility, it is often used in upholstered furniture such as sofas and armchairs. It is also very well suited for leather wrapping and apron manufacturing, among other uses. When skived, upholstery leather can be made even thinner, allowing it to be used as shoe lining. The hide’s natural structure is part of the upholstery leather’s character and can vary depending on the part of the hide – this is a natural feature of the material’s appearance and cannot be controlled.

Upholstery leather is sold in full hides, with each hide being approximately 45 square feet (ft²).
